Hanging In The Balance
A friend sent me this inspiring speech the other day. I’ve been passing it around only because it’s just so simple and meaningful, but the message is clear. There are certain things in the life balance that are just more important and delicate than others and they need to be valued.
30 second Speech by Bryan Dyson (CEO of Coca Cola)
“Imagine life as a game in which you are juggling some five balls in the air. You name them – work, family, health, Friends and spirit and you’re keeping all of these in the Air.
You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back.
But the other four Balls – Family, Health, Friends and Spirit – are made of glass. If you drop one of these; they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same. “
20 in 10 in 2010
2010: 20 lbs. 10 months. That was my resolution during New Years. What a ridiculous and crazy goal, but it’s doable. Totally doable… So, this Fat Tuesday, I’m dropping sweets and sugars. I’m thinking I’m already going to fail… but gotta give it a shot. Constant vigilance!
Earthquake In Chicago?
You know, I lived in California for a couple of years in the early 2000s and maybe experienced one or two very small earthquakes. Nothing “earth shattering”. So, imagine my surprise to be woken up this morning by an earthquake of a magnitude of 3.9 with an epicenter maybe 3 miles west of where I live. The sucker lasted a good 7 seconds. I really thought it was a snow plow from last night’s blizzard, but it felt more like the snow plow was scraping against the house. Wow! Snow in the west coast, earthquakes in the midwest. The world is turning upside down, huh?
Superbowl 2010
The Chessmen gathered at White Bishop’s restaurant for some Superbowl. I couldn’t say I was rooting for either of the Saints or the Colts, but I’d have to say that the Saints had a well deserved win… We played some Texas Hold’em during halftime. I need to play poker more…
Chessmen
Last time I went through this blogging business, I tried as much as possible to change the names to protect the innocent. It’s not like people can’t figure out who is who, but just for ridiculous fun I’m going to codename 6 of my buddies as chess pieces. So for you fellas… White Bishop, White Knight, White Rook, Black Bishop, Black Knight, and Black Rook. This post is for you. Who is the King you ask? Well, me of course… duh.
Final Season of Lost
Well here it is… after taking about a day to digest the 2 hour season premiere of Lost, I can only express how excited I am to have the show back on TV. And what a doozy of a start. I can’t really say much at present with risk to my friends who haven’t seen the episode yet, but I can say that I give it a thumbs up. Lots of questions still left to answered, but surprises are still coming. Wow!
Mobile Blogging
In an attempt to try to keep with my writing, I’m testing out the wordpress site from my Blackberry. The interface looks different, and there’s only so much you can get out of the Blackberry Browser for now, but hey, this works…
Ready, click, publish…

Lost!
In anticipation for the final season of one of the best TV shows out there, I finally hunkered down last week and purchased the first 5 seasons of Lost on DVD to revisit some of the best the show had to offer already.
Here I am on the eve of the final season premiere, and I hope it’s gonna be a great kick-off to a homestretch for some of the most fascinating characters I’ve seen on TV. Can’t wait. I’ll chime in on my reviews this season.
Round 2 Day 1
Been holding off on the P90X reboot for 2010. But once again work and the long commute has gotten me too busy to catch up on my workouts. So, I’ve decided to put the commitment back into play for another 90 days of extreme home fitness with p90X. I ran through a round last summer with decent results, but this time I’m looking to put the pedal to the medal and I hope I come out stronger! So, let’s check now and then from now till the 90th day… May 1. No photos though, sorry.
Wise Fortune Cookie
C is for cookie and it’s good enough for me. And a particular cookie, a fortune cookie in this particular case, had wise words to say.
Upon opening the usual fortune cookie from my favorite Chinese restaurant in my town, I came upon this fortune: “You can’t steal second base and keep your foot on first.”
Was it a coincidence that I am currently dealing with a situation where moving forward to a next stage in my professional career will require letting go of the previous one? I think not. I will learn to capitalize on this idea this year… with a capital C. But for now, taping up the fortune to my work monitor is enough to remind myself here and there that a person can’t standing on two bases at once. Time make a move for 2nd base.. Let’s see how that goes.
